The Brightspace quiz tool provides the opportunity to check student's understanding of course material. The quiz tool includes options for multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, multi-select, short answer questions, and more. Quizzes are set up at Purdue Global as part of the standard course development and revision process. If you have questions about quizzes in the course you teach, please contact the course lead or your academic chair.
You can preview what your students will see from the Content area of the classroom.
Select Content from the top menu.
Click on the Unit heading in the left navigation pane to bring up the unit content listing.
Click on Quiz.
This will open a page describing the Quiz.
To review the quiz setup and preview directions, click on the preview button.
Clicking into the quiz title allows you to see the quiz setup.
The tabs include properties, restrictions, assessment, objectives, and submission views.
Specific instructions and information regarding the quiz are provided for the student.
Options for quiz attempts and calculation type as set by course leadership are provided here.
When you preview a quiz, you will be directed to see the quiz from the student's view.
Preview starts with Quiz Details for the student, including:
Current time (for deadline reference if applicable)
Current user
Time Allowed (specifies any time limits for taking the quiz)
Attempts (provides information on the number of times the student can complete the quiz as well as how many attempts have been completed)
The introduction provides a quick overview of the quiz.
Instructions are included here to ensure the student understands the process for completing and submitting the quiz attempt.
Students will click on the Start Quiz button to begin their attempt. Instructors can click into this to see the actual quiz content.
If you are finished reviewing the preview information, click the Exit Preview button to go back to the course content.
When you click into the Start Quiz button, you will see a preview of the actual quiz.
Overview information at the top of the quiz window provides quick reference information regarding the quiz including estimated length and attempts.
Quiz questions with point value and answer options display in the center of the window.
A quick question summary is provided to the left including question tiles by page. When a student selects an answer, the system will save their choice and mark the question tile with a check mark.
Click on Exit Preview to return to the Quiz Tool page.
Many quizzes are auto-graded and there is no need for faculty to enter quiz grades. Auto-graded quizzes will be recorded automatically in the gradebook.
To manually grade a quiz or specific questions within a quiz, access via the Quiz tab.
Locate the quiz that you want to review/grade, and click on the name/link.
At the top of the page, click the dropdown next to the heading.
Select Grade from the dropdown menu.
Click on the attempt link for the student submission you wish to grade.
Individual question scores can be added or updated as needed.
Feedback can also be provided for each question.
Click Save and Close to update the Quiz Score.
Does not apply to Concord Law School Course Quizzes and Finals*
You can also reset a quiz for a student:
Click on Quizzes in the top navigation menu.
Find the quiz you want to reset and click the drop-down arrow to the right of the quiz name.
Select the Grade option.
*Concord Law School faculty: please see information on Quizzes and Finals, including information about requesting second attempts for students.
The Grade Quiz window appears and defaults to the Users tab.
You can also view by Attempts by clicking that tab.
Use the search function to find a specific student's attempt(s).
The drop down provides an alternative way to filter results, such as "users with attempts in progress."
Click the check box next to the student attempt you wish to remove to reset the quiz for that student.
Click the trash can icon to reset the attempt.
Note: Please contact your Academic Leadership Team for guidance on college, school, or course policies regarding quiz resets, etc.
Click on the Quizzes tab
Open the dropdown next to the Quiz you wish to access
Select the Grade option
On the User tab, you can search for specific users and filter for “users with attempts in progress”
Click the “Enter quiz as user” icon
Click “Yes” on the pop-up to proceed
Navigate to the submission button at the bottom of the quiz
When finished, click the “Exit Impersonating” button at the top right of the scree
The event log for the student's prior attempt is available to instructors by accessing the attempt and selecting the More Option dropdown in the top right of the evaluation panel.
The log will provide a detailed list of access and progress by question.
Note: Save time only reflects the initial activity. Autosave will put the most current date stamp in the display. Faculty must look at the quiz log to determine a more detailed view of the student's progress.
If a student finds an error in a quiz, they can report the issue in one of two ways:
Tech Support: The student can report quiz errors by calling tech support. A course issue is submitted by the tech support staff. The course Curriculum Specialist will reach out to the Course Lead to determine the correct answer and fix the issue accordingly.
Course Instructor: The student can report quiz errors by reaching out to their instructor. The instructor should communicate the issue with the Course Lead. The Course Lead will submit a course issue and have it fixed accordingly.
If an instructor finds an error in a quiz, they should report this to the Course Lead.
