Intelligent Agents is a productivity tool available within Brightspace. Instructors may use Intelligent Agents to automate communication, including notifications and feedback to students.

It is important to update the settings for intelligent agents to ensure that messages are sent from the instructor and not a system generated email address. This will allow students' replies to agent emails to be sent directly to the instructor.
In the “Agent List” window, select “Settings.”
Select the “Set custom values for this course” option to enter your name and email address.
The first section of setting up a new agent includes the following
Agent Name (naming an agent is only for instructor reference purposes)
Description (this optional component is only for instructor reference)
Category (this optional component allows instructors to categorize agents)
Status (agents must be enabled to run manually or automatically)
The second area for agent setup is to select the scheduling of the agent. Options include no schedule (run manually), one-time run, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or annually.
Next is the Criteria section which provides options for defining who and why the agents will interact with. Specific release conditions can be created and added to an agent to specify course content, dropbox submissions, discussion posts, etc. as agent criteria.
The last section includes the actions component or what you would like the agent to do if criteria are met. Clicking on the “Send an email when the criteria are satisfied” will open up the area to specify email details.
The university and some departments have added agents to courses for things like participation. Faculty need to enable these agents at the start of the term to allow them to run as scheduled.
Agents that are not enabled or are disabled will be marked with the "x" icon to the right of the agent name.
Click the check box to the left of the agent you wish to enable.
Click the enable link at the top of the agent list.
The standard participation agent (Participation - 10 Day Inactivity Check-In) found in all courses and the three module course reminder agents will in many cases benefit from adding a start date for the agent to run.
In the Scheduling area, check the box next to 'Has Start Date' and enter a date of 10 days after the start of the term.
This setting will prevent any students enrolled before the course start date from incorrectly receiving an email. If this option is not selected, students could get the email within the first 10 days of the course start.
If the instructor is enabling the IA more than 10 days after the course start, then this setting does not need to be configured.
The standard participation agent (Participation - 10 Day Inactivity Check-In) found in all courses may need additional release conditions for module courses. To ensure that only students who have completed the readiness check and have not successfully passed the competency assessment are sent the agent notifications, faculty can add the following two release conditions.
