Working with Gentle Hands
We worked with our chosen community, Gentle Hands, to adjust our program to fit the needs of the children. In order to ensure that our program runs smoothly, we coordinated with (Point Person) through Google meet and email. A key insight we were given is that they would prefer the delivery of experiment kits directly to them so that the activity feels more exclusive for the kids and they feel a sense of responsibility in doing the activity. We were also told that the kids all want to be in the spotlight of the activity. Working with Gentle Hands was smooth and enjoyable for us.
Creation of Learning Kits
In order to assist us in creating the videos, we collaborated with PSHS-MC science teachers to refine the flow of the experiments and the explanation of the scientific concepts behind them. This was done in order to ensure that we provide the proper information while still being engaging and easy to understand. Using pre-recorded videos also guarantees that future groups may use the concepts taught as reference for their own projects. In an effort to make our project sustainable, we ensured that our content and methodology are easy to replicate and distribute. We also utilized recyclable materials in the learning kits.
Distribution of Learning Kits
Because of the current circumstances of the pandemic, we were unable to directly go to Gentle Hands to conduct our activities. Instead we had to distribute the materials remotely. This arrangement and the delivery of the experiment kits was done in coordination with the PSHS-MC Property Office.
