Project Pearls was founded in 2010. It is a non-profit organization that aims to end poverty. They have been all over the country helping the poor by providing programs such as Daily Hunger Relief Program, Community Learning Activities, Scholarship Program, Health Clinic, and Medical, Emergency & Social Services (Project Pearls, 2022). Project Pearls is also popularly known for giving Scholarships to various students via LitClub.
A world where nutrition, education, shelter, and medical services aren't a problem for the youth to achieve their fullest potential.
To aid the impoverished youth by giving them PEARLS: Peace, Education, Aspiration, Respect, Love, and Smiles, through the means of education, nutrition, nourishment, and health care.
After consulting with the Project Pearls education heads, we were able to conclude that they no longer have much need for pre-recorded video tutorials due to a surplus from other volunteers and accessibility reasons for those without gadgets, that is why we have decided to create the traditional modules and infographics instead. After browsing through a copy of their sample modules, videos, and course outlines, we were able to identify the specific gaps within their materials with which we can supplement which is why we have decided to focus on grades levels 1 to 3. Furthermore, we decided to focus on select topics from Math, Science, and English as these subjects are most relevant to our cause. With this, more information may be found on our objectives following this section.
To cooperate with Project Pearls staff in the further education of their students
To assist students participating in the education programs of Project Pearls with supplementary learning in selected topics in Math, Science, and English
And finally, to create intuitive, future-proof infographics and modules that can easily be understood by the students
Due to the current state of education in the Philippines, most schools have shifted to online or remote learning, making it difficult for the less fortunate to keep up with their education. By using modules and infographics instead of videos, problems regarding internet connectivity or device access may be alleviated or reduced since such documents may be disseminated through physical form. We believe that children are the country’s future as they are going to be the next generation to occupy our world. Proper education is one of the most important factors in developing our country. By helping them grow and learn, we will be passing on our knowledge to them so they will be able to properly lead our nation.
Discussions and consultations were held with the Project Pearls point person regarding the learning materials' content and target audience.
The subjects the group focused on making learning materials were Math, English, and Science. Topics were chosen from DepEd's curriculum. Each subject was assigned to a pair.
The syllabi and learning materials provided by Project Pearls, and modules from the internet, were used as references and guides.
The learning materials created by the team were compiled into a Google Drive for the approval of Project Pearls.
FINAL TIMELINE
With our close cooperation with the Project Pearls staff, we were able to find suitable topics for their scholars and create intuitive modules and infographics. These learning materials help the students understand certain topics, reduce the workload of Project Pearls tutors, and serve as example for modules of other topics. We created learning materials for Math, English and Science, one module and one infographic each. These learning materials were approved and considered great by Project Pearls. However, Project Pearls also commented that the module design can be made more engaging for the students.
We were able to achieve all of our objectives even through our change in timeline due to unforeseen workloads.
The final modules and infographics can be accessed through this link.
The materials created for the project can both be used immediately and long into the future which makes it very valuable to the community. Scholars of Project Pearls will be able to read and learn from the modules and infographics for as long as the information stays relevant. As Project Pearls is already closely tied to PISAY, future batches will have also have an easy time cooperating with them and creating more materials for the cause.
The project's objectives were successfully attained by the group wherein the group, along with Project Pearls, was able to provide help and education to the less fortunate children.
It is suggested that modules' designs are made better for it to be appealing to the children's eyes. Other than that, if possible, fund raising programs or donations can be made and given to these scholars since Project Pearls does not only focus on education but to the people's social welfare as well.
