Philippine Statistics Authority reported that 10% of the Filipino youth aged 6 to 24 are considered out-of-school children.
This means that about 4 million Filipino youth lack formal attendance in school, gainful employment, or college units needed for degree completion. Their reasons for these are mainly attributed to family, financial, and motivational issues. There have been studies that suggest education opportunities like scholarships and welfare programs are effective in aiding low-income families away from poverty (Constantino et al., 2017). We wish to address this issue of accessible education and its correlation to financial and motivational issues of out-of-school children, which are also the objectives of the HOUSE Foundation.
What we aim to do.
To promote possible STEM field and careers in the country
To encourage proper health protocols within the foundation
Our project may serve as a stepping stone for future initiatives that aim to support the foundation. Based on the previous projects that were completed with the foundation, the group drafted a proposal that was both in line with projects done by Batch 2021 and timely based on the events in this pandemic. After meeting with the foundation representatives, we were able to adjust the initial plans to better fit their needs.
Since we will be working on visual aids such as posters and infographics timely to the pandemic, future initiatives can be focused on spreading awareness and safety tips as well as vaccination promotion against Covid-19. According to the representatives of the foundation, the posters and infographics will be displayed around their facilities where said visual aids will be on exhibit for the target population. The subject of the visual aids is workplace safety and health, and the information from these will benefit the members of the organization and the out-of-school youth once they become gainfully employed.
Furthermore, we plan on promoting STEM to members of the HOUSE Foundation. We believe that by presenting the importance of STEM and the vast opportunities that come with it to the students, they would have a broader perspective and give more thought and consideration to STEM-related fields.
