preliminary interview
To gain a better perspective of the problems that are present within the SARPODA community, the group had conducted preliminary interviews with the chairperson of SARPODA, Ms. Lorna Concepcion, together with some testimonials from the pedicab drivers themselves. Originally, a proposed solution was the donation of vulcanizing machines to the community. This solution had both ease-of-life for the drivers but also a new job opportunity for some members of the sitio. However, after preliminary interviews, the group together with Ms. Concepcion had decided that the main problem that was supposed to be fixed was the lack of identification for drivers. Therefore, a uniform in the form of a vest was hailed as the best solution that the group could give to SARPODA.
FUNDRAISING
Preparation period
In order to raise funds that would be used to give uniforms for the SARPODA community, the group had brainstormed possible activities that could garner enough money for the project that would be implemented. The group decided that selling deep-fried Filipino street food would be appropriate because of the easy preparation as well as the guaranteed demand that it would have. Once it was finalized, the group promoted the selling online using their menu as well as their prices. The group had also assigned specific roles for each group member that would serve as their stations in the actual implementation of the fundraiser. Ingredients and needs were bought before the fundraising weeks.
Implementation period
The group had served Filipino street food from February 13-23 every Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. As the weeks went on, the group had experienced heightened demand consistently and all hands were put to good use. Bolando and Rosales were the main cooks, Damian and Larisca were in-charge of food preparation, Antipolo was the one working on crowd control, and Viloria was in-charge of the cashier. After 6 service days, the shop was able to garner a total of Php 39,374 as gross revenue with Php 4,800 in solicitations. At the end of the group audit, the group was able to earn a profit of Php 29,487.
vest procurement, preparation & printing
Vest procurement
After reaching the target budget (at 17,500 pesos for 100 vests), group member Larisca had bought vests from an equipment shop that was reserved from during the price canvassing phase of the research project. Upon consultation, it was decided that a bright color was needed to make the drivers stand out even during the daytime; the final vests that were bought had a bright yellow-orange color.
Vest preparation
The main problem of the organization is the lack of identification, thus the SARPODA logo was planned to be placed at the back of the vests. Bolando visited the barangay outpost to ask for a sample ID of a member which contained the logo that the group wanted to print. Afterwards, the logo was manually retraced and reformatted on a 35cm by 35cm black and white template on Canva, a graphic design tool.
Vest printing
Design printing was done outside of the campus; Damian looked for silkscreen printing services online through Facebook Marketplace and Shopee. Several stores had messaged, but the cheapest rate that the group received was 55 pesos per piece through Silk Screen Printing in Makati City. The printed vests had been received and they were mailed back to the PSHS-MC three days after it was done printing.
