Shepherd Of The Hills Children's Foundation Inc. is a non-government charity organization whose aim is to aid children in need by providing much-needed child care and support. It was established in 1978 by current president Pastor Nathaniel Mejica’s parents, Christian missionaries whose assignment to travel to Cyprus was canceled due to the ongoing civil war. As a result of this, the Mejica family remained in the Cubao area of the Philippines.
Here, the number of children wandering, lying on, and living off the streets, as well as the scarcity of existing orphanages in the 1970s moved them to take the youth in under their own caring wings. They organized a small group of people to finance the project, picked up the children, and housed them in a small apartment in the city.
The foundation previously had a website with the domain http://www.shepherdofthehills.org.ph, however, it is no longer accessible. The website’s launch will hopefully help the foundation achieve its goals as a center of information (about the foundation and its projects) and recruitment (of donations, volunteers, sponsors, and partners). The creation of a website will provide an improvement in brand image and awareness, hopefully increasing the number of the foundation’s sponsors and patrons.
The project’s main objective is to design a website based on the needs and wants of Shepherd Of The Hills Children's Foundation Inc. representatives
The website will serve as a customizable platform catered to online users to streamline collection and dissemination processes, establish credibility, and showcase the brand
The website is projected to boost the foundation’s engagement rate (as seen through analytics), and to make the foundation more accessible to the general public.
We conducted an initial interview with Pastor Nathaniel Mejica, the current president and director of the foundation. This allowed us to learn more about the foundation’s history & operations and better establish their needs for a website.
Made to visualise the look and feel of the future website
We constantly communicated with SOTH representatives to propose color palettes & website functions and collect information about their programs & history that would be displayed on the webpage.
Over a period of two weeks, the website was coded according to the provided design and feedback. Vito, CJ, and Kitkat were the main workers on this part of the project. The website was mostly coded from scratch, manually styled with CSS and HTML. Some external resources were used, specifically Bootstrap CSS and Flaticon graphical elements.
We held a final turnover ceremony over GMeet, wherein we showed SOTH representatives the website we created and they gave feedback regarding possible improvements to the website, such as buttons leading as we continue working with them in the foreseeable future.
After development concluded, we were able to create a one-page website with four sections: home, about us, programs, and donations & contact. These combined four sections streamline the work of the people managing the Shepherd Of The Hills Children's Foundation Inc. and its social media accounts and make it easier for interested sponsors and patrons to get important details on the foundation.
