EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION
For implementation, the group worked with three primary point persons from the Mercedarian and the GDAPD. The project was made feasible thanks their efforts. In order from left to right, they: permitted and arranged for the seminar to be hosted at the Mercedarian, established the partnership between PHIVOLCS and Project Canary, and presented the lecture during the seminar proper.

A fundraiser was held to cover the expenses for the seminar: transportation fees of the speaker, prizes and totems for the community, and food for the participants and staff. The group decided to grab the opportunity from the Valentine’s Day hype to sell goods to the Philippine Science High School community. The group settled on selling coffee packets to increase the target demographic, accounting for the parents and faculty alongside the students. Given the occasion, the marketing scheme revolved around Valentine’s; thus, the fundraiser was dubbed Bittersweet: Make Their Heart Beat.
The group collaborated with two local businesses to source coffee packets wholesale: initially Happy Jappy PH, then later through Nutriopals.

SEMINAR PREPARATION
Visual aids were prepared prior to the seminar. In total, there were 64 slides accounting for the icebreaker, project introduction, speaker introduction, and breakout room activities. Each of the games was inspired from an important concept highlighted from the elementary information package made by PHIVOLCS, DepEd, and DOST.
Note:
For the seminar lecture, Ma'am Mangahas prepared and used her own set of slides. A copy of these slides may be sent upon official request to the Geologic Disaster Awareness and Preparedness Division.
A customized design of a baby canary was laser cut and engraved (in the Infinity Lab) on two 18 x 24 inch acrylic sheets bought from Manila Acrylic. Afterwards, ring chains were purchased from Rubeth M. and attached to each cut-out using jewelry pliers.
ABC Chocolates were bought in bulk from S&R and hand-packaged into recycled mini plastic bags. There were 47 normal (packs of 7) and 10 special (packs of 10) packages prepared as seminar prizes to ideally incentivize the participation of the students.
SEMINAR HOSTING
The seminar was scheduled to take place over five hours, with two major divisions. The first part would be Ma'am Robelyn Mangahas' lecture, followed by a 30 minute break, and then the second part- interactive activities held in the breakout rooms. Before these however, there was an icebreaker or introduction activity titled Earthquake! where volunteers were asked what they would do during different scenarios of an earthquake.
Three student volunteers were called upon, and was asked what they would do in case of an earthquake in various hypothetical scenarios: sitting at your desk, walking in the school hallways, playing at the park, and roaming the mall.
A seminar was conducted by Ma'am Robelyn Mangahas, a certified geologist from PHIVOLCS, discussing the basics of earthquakes and its relevant hazards. The presentation showcases important videos, apps and games to keep the students engaged.
BREAK OUT SESSIONS
Word Chain is a game where people say related words to keep the chain as long as possible. In the seminar, there were three rulesets that were used:
Round 1 | Continue the chain by describing something that rhymes with the previous word 🗣️
Round 2 | Continue the chain by enacting something that rhymes with the previous word 🎬
Round 3 | Continue the chain by either of the two previous methods, but it has to be a related concept instead of a rhyme 🎬🗣️
The games follows the same mechanics as Pass the Message; however, it was modified such that the messages would be passed differently across three rounds. The length of the content passed varied to cater to the different mediums.
Round 1 | Classic (via oral communication) 🗣️
Round 2 | Interactive (via actions) 🏃♂️
Round 3 | Frozen (via writing) 📝
The game Four Drawings, One Word was inspired by the game Four Pics, One Word and functions similarly. It was done by splitting the breakout rooms in half, with one half drawing certain words, and the other guessing what these drawings meant.

⚠️ hazards 📰 news
The Great Escape was played using pre-made maps made by the members of Project Canary, where the students were challenged to reach the safety exits. For every two moves they made, the hazards on the map would spread or grow in number. The participating students are divided into two groups, where they have two moves each before the other group takes over movement controls.
Hazards:
🗻Rubble | Blocks Possible Pathways
🔥 Fire | Spreads Adjacently and Blocks pathways
💧 Water | Spreads Depending on Ground Level
