Start by selecting the Effects Workspace
Transitions allow you to make seamless crossovers from one clip to another, be it audio or video.
The most common transition is the cut, in which one shot changes instantly to the next.
Visual effect transitions are not as commonly used in most productions but they still have their place.
To find the transitions, look to the top right of your workspace in the Effects tab.
Open the bin labeled Video Transitions and select the transition you want to use.
To apply transitions, open one of the folders, grab the transition you want, and drag it onto the edge between the two clips.
You can shorten or lengthen the transition by grabbing the ends of the transition bar and extending or shortening them.
The dissolve folder would contain transitions that most people are used to seeing for videos.

CUT – The most common transition, an instant change from one shot to the next.
FADE – Fades the shot to a colour, usually black or white. Fades usually signal the beginning and end of scenes or show the passage of time.
DISSOLVE – A gradual fade from one shot to the next. Dissolves can also convey a sense of passing time or changing location.
WIPE – One shot is progressively replaced by another shot in a linear pattern.
