Outside of adjusting your levels and curves, here are other quick ways to get cool contrast results.
A Gradient Map Adjustment Layer can add black and white to parts of your image.
You might need to click Reverse to flip the colors.
You can fine tune the effect by clicking on the gradient and adjusting the sliders.
Set the Gradient's Blending mode to Soft Light or Overlay.
If you’re looking for a quick cinematic finish, duplicate your image and then desaturate the layer. Image > Adjustment > Desaturate.
Set this layer's Blending Mode to Overlay.
Duplicate this Overlay layer a number of times for a more intense effect.
