This assignment emphasizes the refinement of photography skills through creative control over the camera, and composition techniques while implementing the principles and elements of design.
Students will create a portfolio showcasing six different genres of photography and reflect on their favorite photos from each genre.
You may use your camera phone, another camera you own, or the school DSLR cameras.
Photos may be taken outside of class time, but editing and uploading to your website MUST be done in class.
For best results, shoot in a very well lit area. (lower lit areas might introduce camera shake into your photos)
If you choose to shoot in a dark area, you might need a tripod

Take lots of pictures of the same subject - experiment with angles and other composition techniques.
You will submit 7 of your best photos from each of your chosen genres.
On your website, pick your favorite SINGLE photo from each genre and reflect on those photos.

1. 7 Photographs from 6 of the 12 different genres (that means 42 Photos on your website)
2. Website that includes (do this 6 times) - See Example Page
a. The title of your genre
b. Your 7 photos for that genre
c. A reflection on your favorite photo from that genre.
3. Reflections.
Pick ONE photo from each genre and write a full critique of your photo. (total of six).
A proper critique for a photograph usually focuses on these main aspects of the photo: content, background, technical craftsmanship, and finally your general feelings on the photo
Below are some sample questions to get your started.
What were you trying to capture in the photo?
Is it an emotional shot, a story, a statement, a humorous photo?
What is the message you want to convey to the viewer?
Explain how you attempted to convey this message (composition, design elements, etc.)
Does the background add or distract from the message
Are the subjects sharp and clearly in focus?
Is the photo exposed properly?
What do you like about it?
What do you not like about it?
What would you do differently if you had the chance to take the same photograph?
