Week ending: Friday 19th April 2024

Dear Families,

Welcome back! We hope you have had a lovely Easter break.  Thank you for all your support over the holidays with the children's reading and home learning. We have had a fantastic week back to school in the sunshine. This week we have learnt about the Islamic festival of Eid. We learnt how Muslims complete Ramadan by fasting, praying and reflecting for a month and then celebrate on the next crescent moon for Eid. It is a big celebration with family, food and decorations such as mehndi hand designs. We wrote a fact file about Ramadan and enjoyed creating our own 2D shape mosques and creating star and moon decorations. In maths, we explored odd and even numbers and ordered them on number line! A friendly reminder that all children should have a spare change of clothes in their bags/on their peg at all times.

Next week, please join us on Wednesday for Reception  Come Dine With Me and Family Friday!

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes from the Reception Team

Our Phonics Learning this week

Practise the sounds we have learnt this week with your child by clicking on the pictures below. The more opportunities they have to see, hear and say the sounds, the more likely they are to stick. The videos will teach you too! Then practise reading the green words. Can you write any?

Activities to try at home this weekend

Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love to see them!

Number bonds to 10

Can you find all the ways to make 10?  Put up 1 finger at a time to see how many more you need to make 10.

Start with 0, how many more do you need to make 10? That's right, 10! So the equation is 0 + 10 = 10

Write the addition equations to match.

Challenge:  Can you use the numbers to write the subtraction equations? Remember to start with 10 and then subtract by putting 1 finger at a time down,

Eid- Mosques

Can you find/visit any mosques in your local area?

Write a sentence to explain how Muslims celebrate Eid. Remember to use your sounds and capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
