Dear Families,
Thank you to all those parents who were able to join us for our Family Friday!
his week we completed our 'Clean Up!' topic by answering the question 'How can we help the environment?' The children learned about the three types of pollution and the importance of recycling. We were even lucky enough to have someone from Hackney Council tell us how we can make sure we protect our school environment. We have been exploring subtraction within 10 this week in maths. The children comfortably used their new mathematical vocabulary and explore different methods to help them solve equations.
Have a lovely weekend!
Best wishes,
The Reception Team
Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.
Can you sing along to our song of the week?
We have learnt the words below this week. Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?
What does recycle mean?
What can we reduce our use of to help the environment?
Why is it important to reuse recycled materials?
This week we have been practicing our subtraction within 10. The children were able to to confidently use concrete objects, a ten frame and pictures to help them solve subtraction equations.
Practise the sounds we have learnt this week with your child by clicking on the pictures below. The more opportunities they have to see, hear and say the sounds, the more likely they are to stick. The videos will teach you too! Then practise learning to blend with Fred talk.
Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love to see them!
Can you sort your recycling by material? What material has the most items?
Make a poster to tell the people in your home or neighbourhood how they can help the environment!
Please make sure your child brings their school bag in every day to take home any letters, books or learning they have done. They also need to have a spare change of clothes on their peg. Thank you!
As the weather gets colder, please make sure your child has a hat, scarf and gloves to help keep them warm during outdoor play. Please label every item!
Every Wednesday, we will be changing your child's two reading books. One book will be a RWI/phonics book to support their reading and one will be a reading for pleasure story book. Please make sure you return both books every Monday along with their reading journals.
Any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call the school office on 020 7253 9469 or email the team via tfoffice@newwaveferation.co.uk
