Week ending Friday 20th February, 2023

Dear Families,

The children have been super creative this week, reusing our recycled materials to new things, including our wonderful under the sea display, sorted correctly in our recycling centre and made dens with large boxes. In maths, we explored odd and even numbers. As a special activity, we made valentines cards for our families. Have a lovely half term Reception, have fun and don't forget to practise your blending with your new books!

Best wishes from the Reception Team

Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.

Have you been to the seaside?

What do you like best about being near the ocean?

What do we learn from Rocket in this story?

Our Song/Rhyme this week

Our Words this week

We have learnt the words below this week. Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?

reduce

How can you reduce your use of plastic?

reuse

What items can you reuse in your house again and again?

recycle

What materials can we recycle?

Our Maths Learning this week

Our Phonics Learning this week

Practise the sounds we have learnt this week with your child by clicking on the pictures below. The more opportunities they have to see, hear and say the sounds, the more likely they are to stick. The videos will teach you too! Then practise learning to blend with Fred talk.

Activities to try at home this weekend

Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love to see them!

Look out for the recycling bins!

Can you spot any recycling bins and recycling trucks?

Noticeboard

School bag/Change of clothes

Please ensure your child brings in a school bag and has a spare change of clothes! It is important for them to take any letters and learning they made home each day.

Winter Clothes!

As the weather is getting colder, please make sure your child has hat, scarves and gloves to keep them warm when playing outside!

Reading Books- Wednesday

Each week the children will receive a reading for pleasure story book and a RWI Phonics book which has simple words/stories to practise their reading skills. Please make sure both books are returned every Wednesday to swap. These will be rotated so you may receive the same book again but practise makes perfect! Children use their sound knowledge to say the individual sounds of the word, then blend together to read the word.

For example:

c - a - t      cat

l - a - m - p     lamp
