Dear Families,
In the second week of our topic, we looked at how plants grow and explored Spring nature. We visited the local park and had a Spring nature hunt. We saw lots of signs of Spring! We have also been doing lot's of gardening in school and planted our own cress seeds! We can't wait to watch them grow and visit our school allotment next week. We role played in our new Garden Centre and created our own craft flowers in Art. In maths, we looked at sharing into equal groups and counting in twos/pairs. We look forward to speaking with you during Parents Consultations on Wednesday!
Thank you
Best wishes from the Reception Team
Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.
How do plants grow?
We have learnt the words below this week. Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?
What do the roots of the plant do?
Can you find the stem of a flower?
What do plants need to grow?
This week, we have been learning how to share amounts. You have to share the amount into equal groups. You must share 1 at a time to make sure the amount is the equal and fair.
We also practised counting in 2's and finding pairs.
Practise the sounds we have learnt this week with your child by clicking on the pictures below. The more opportunities they have to see, hear and say the sounds, the more likely they are to stick. The videos will teach you too! Then practise learning to blend with Fred talk.
Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love to see them!
Count in twos and hang your socks on the washing line! How many pairs do you have?
Can you practise finding groups of two?
Explore your garden/local park or garden centre. What plants can you see? Can you practise gardening? Can you spot any spring nature?
Please make sure you sign up to a Parent Consultation slot on Tuesday 26th or Wednesday 27th March so we can discuss your child's amazing progress this term!
Each week the children will receive a RWI book/Ditty sheet which has simple words/sentences to practise their reading skills. Please ensure you practise these with your child. Please ensure both RWI and storybooks are returned every Monday , so they can be changed. We will not send new books home without them being returned. Thank you!
A reminder that the school will close on Thursday 28th March at 2pm for the Easter Holidays. School will open for Summer term on Tuesday 16th April.
Any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call the school office on 020 7253 9469 or email the team via tfoffice@newwaveferation.co.uk
