Week ending Friday 13th January, 2023

Dear Families,

Happy New Year and Welcome back to school! In Reception, we  have started our new topic of Seasons. We have enjoyed identifying each season and comparing these. We have looked at what you can do in each season and created our own books about this. We have also been very creative - using different materials to decorate nature in each season, making tree collages with lots of strips of paper and used finger painting to decorate trees. We have loved exploring our new role play area - an animal rescue centre! In maths, we looked at addition within 10.

Best wishes from the Reception Team

Our Words this week

We have learnt the words below this week. Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?

Seasons

How many seasons are there?

Winter

What is the weather like in Winter?

Summer

What do you like to do in Summer?

Our Maths Learning this week

Our Phonics Learning this week

Practise the sounds we have learnt this week with your child by clicking on the pictures below. The more opportunities they have to see, hear and say the sounds, the more likely they are to stick. The videos will teach you too! Then practise learning to blend with Fred talk.

Activities to try at home this weekend

Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love to see them!

Adding amounts to 10

Choose 2 different amounts. This could be from rolling a dice, collecting items or just selecting 2 numbers under 10. Practise adding these together by counting altogether. As a challenge, can you write out the number equation that matches this?

Sentences starting with I

In our topic work this week, we looked at all the things you can do in the different seasons. We wrote sentences starting with the tricky word 'I'. Speak with your child about the different things they do in each season, starting with I. Can you use your sounds to write down the sentence? Don't forget finger spaces and a full stop!

Noticeboard

Junk modelling

Thank you for all the donations for our junk modelling over the next few weeks. We seem to have enough boxes now but can still use plastic bottles, like water bottles, milk bottles etc.

PE

Coach Tanya has passed on thanks to those who have remembered to wear their PE Kits on Thursday and wore socks and shoes the children can remove and put back on independently. If children are cold and wearing longer clothes under joggers, please ensure their feet are free to join in with gymnastics.

Homework

Please complete homework sheets with your child, this helps to reinforce learning in school. If you read with your child, please note this in their reading record. Daily reading is an amazing a special time to share with your child.
