Week ending Friday 13th February, 2023

Dear Families,

In the second week of our topic, contrasting countries, we learnt about water pollution. We learnt about the effect humans have on the sea and sea life creatures through our book - Clean Up! We created posters to tell people how to reduce their water pollution. We also made our very own craft jelly fish and explored cleaning rubbish from the sea. We completed our own water tray clean up and made lovely turtles with playdough. We even had a special visit from Ms Archer's pet turtle! In maths, we practiced adding to 10 using a part whole model, ten frame and number line. We are investigating recyclying next week, so please bring in any spare materials such as egg cartons, plastic bottles and cardboard! We hope you can all join us for our reading tea next Friday at 3.10pm. Have a lovely weekend!

Best wishes from the Reception Team

We have learnt the words below this week. Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?

pollution

What types of things can end up in the sea and cause water pollution?

environment

What environment is affected in the book, Clean Up?

What animals are endangered?

Our Maths Learning this week

We have been learning our number bonds to 10 - 2 numbers added together to make 10.

Our Phonics Learning this week

Practise the sounds we have learnt this week with your child by clicking on the pictures below. The more opportunities they have to see, hear and say the sounds, the more likely they are to stick. The videos will teach you too! Then practise learning to blend with Fred talk.

Activities to try at home this weekend

Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love to see them!

Practise number bonds to 10

Use your fingers to work out all the number bonds to 10.

Start with zero - how many do you need to add to make 10? Write the equation.

Now move to 1 finger - how many do you need to add to make 10? Write the equation.

See if you can notice the pattern when you write all the equations in order.

Recycling

Next week we are learning about recycling. Discuss with your child what you recycle at home and the different materials. Have a go at sorting which materials can be recycled and which materials can go in the compost bin!

Noticeboard

School bag

Please make sure your child is wearing their PE kits every Wednesday along with plimsoles or trainers.

Boxes please!

We are collecting your rubbish! In our topic we are learning how to reduce, reuse, recycle and so are using lots of materials that would usually be thrown away to make something new! Please bring in any unwanted boxes, cardboard, newspapers for our junk modelling activity!

Reading records

Please ensure you bring in your child's reading record and reading books every WEDNESDAY so that we can swap them! Your child will have a reading for pleasure story book and a RWI phonics book. We will not be able to change your child's books unless the previous ones are returned.
