Dear Families,
Our final week of our learning theme "Contrasting Countries". This week we made posters to inform people how to save water. We learnt why water is important and ways we can save water. Thank you for all your generous donations for our Charity Dress Up Day on Thursday! We have painted our clay pots and created our own safari animal number lines! We also explored clean and dirty water. In maths, we learnt about doubling and continued to explore 3D shapes in the environment. Thank you to those families who joined us for our Maths Family Friday session. Please make sure you are reading with your child regularly and encouraging your child to practise reading their RWI books to you. Remember to return them on Tuesday next week due to school closure!
Best wishes from the Reception Team
Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.
How can we save water?
What charity did we raise money for?
We have learnt the words below this week. Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?
What charity have we raised money for?
What can we do to reduce the water we use?
Why is it all of our responsibilities to help the environment?
This week, we have been learning how to double numbers. You have to add the same amount to double a number and the groups have to be equal.
2 + 2 = 4
Double 2 is 4.
6 + 6 = 12
Double 6 is 12.
Practise the sounds we have learnt this week with your child by clicking on the pictures below. The more opportunities they have to see, hear and say the sounds, the more likely they are to stick. The videos will teach you too! Then practise learning to blend with Fred talk.
Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love to see them!
Have a look to see where you can find doubles around you:
2 arms - 1 + 1 = 2
10 toes - 5 +5 = 10
8 flowers - 4 + 4 = 8
Have a go at writing the equation to match what you find.
We have been practising the red words:
I, you said, the, we, to
Can you make a sentence with these words? Use your sounds for most of the sentence but remember, red words are tricky! We have to learn them off by heart. We can't use our fred talk! Don't forget finger spaces and a full stop!
We kindly ask the children refrain from wearing any special jewellery to avoid any damages or losses!
Each week the children will recieve a RWI reading book to practise their reading skills. They will also pick a reading for pleasure story book for you to share with them. Please ensure you practise and read these with your child as much as possible over the week. Please make sure you return the book bags and sign the reading journal every Wednesday! If they are not returned, we won't be able to change the books! Thank you!
Due to the national teaching strikes, school will be closed on Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th March. If you would like to collect a free school meal for this day, please let the office know by Monday!
Any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call the school office on 020 7253 9469 or email the team via tfoffice@newwaveferation.co.uk
