The answer provided by the Lloyd Ostertag character (portrayed by Elon Musk) was:

• It started as a joke based on an internet meme. Now its taken off in a very real way.....

Anoop Bungay Commentary:

• Regrettably, the answer provided by the Lloyd Ostertag character did not satisfy Michael Che, so the question was repeated, once, twice and then a third time. Without a satisfactory response, Michael Che sought the assistance of his Weekend Update partner (Colin Jost), who ultimately asked the same question: "What is dogecoin". As the camera reverted back to Michael Che, Mr. Che subsequently repeated the same question to the Lloyd Ostertag character a fourth time. Finally, Michael Che concluded that dogecoin is a "hustle" (defined by Oxford as a fraud or swindle or merriam webster dictionary: to lure less skillful players into competing against oneself at (a gambling game), dishonest plan for getting money : SCAM); to which the Lloyd Ostertag character agreed.

Anoop Bungay Answer:

• DOGECOIN is like many other computer programs that are generically (and erroneously) classified as "crypto". Many of these computer programs are nothing more than an "executable program" that effectively function as an uncontrollable, uncertain and therefore volatile 'computer network access program' with "virus-like" or "malware-like" characteristics. For example, the programs are designed in such a way that they functionally and efficiently "take your "fiat" $$$ money and put it into the hands of another person". After you give your "fiat" $$$ to the other person, you are given a 'piece of computer code' in exchange (delivered by a global computer network to a computer folder (or 'digital wallet') and all you can do with this piece of computer code sequence is to "send" the computer code to another person at a price higher than what you paid for the computer code. In reference to "function" or "utility"; at a prima facie level, the only apparent function or utility is the transfer of computer code which possess a certain arbitrary value at any given time, albeit ephemeral and unstable; volatile.

• While dogecoin may be produced in unlimited supply, since there was only a limited amount of dogecoin made available for circulation at an early stage (circa 2013), the largest benefit of value of dogecoin (and many other similar "crypto" products) favours early holders ('hodlers') of the computer program, so you are subject to both "oligopolistic" and "ponzi"-like or "pyramid"-like forces.
