1. Chore Cards

Suggested activity: Lesson development

Adaptation technique: Modification - Teachers can modify the chores based on the norms in Malaysian society.

Implementation strategies:

Teacher distributes the worksheet to each pupil and explains the activity.
Teacher explains to the pupils that they are going to play a game where one person will be the "parent" and the other will be the "child". The "parent" will give chore-related instructions (e.g., “Please make the bed” or “Take the trash out”), and the "child" must act it out.
Teacher gives pupils a few examples of how to give polite instructions. Write some sentence starters on the board, such as: “Can you please…”, “Please help me with…”, “Let’s…”
Teacher lets pupils take turns playing both roles, using the Chore Cards as a guide. Encourage them to speak in English while giving instructions and responding.

Suggested activity: Post lesson

Adaptation technique: Modification -Teachers can modify the activities based on the allocated time and pupils’ levels.

Implementation strategies:

Teacher distributes the worksheet to each pupil and explains the activity.
Teacher plays the poem audio and checks pupils’ understanding.
Teacher asks pupils if there is any word they are unfamiliar with and explains the meaning.
Upon completion, teacher discusses the answers with pupils.

Suggested activity: Post lesson

Adaptation technique: Addition - Teachers can asks other groups to give opinions on their friends' innovations.

Implementation strategies:

Teacher divides pupils into small groups.
Teacher explains the activity where pupils create an innovation to help them with house chores, draw it on a paper and present it in front of the class.
Teacher instructs pupils to write the functions of the innovation below the drawing.
After completion, pupils take turns to present their chore innovation.
Teacher encourages pupils to give opinions on their friends' innovations.

Suggested activity: Lesson development (practice)

Adaptation technique: Modification - Teachers can change certain sports to the familiar ones among children in Malaysia.

Implementation strategies:

Teacher distributes the worksheet to each pupil and explains the activity.
In 15 minutes, pupils find friends and ask them "what is your favourite sport?” and the friends answer “my favourite sport is ___”.
Pupils write down their friends’ names in the worksheet.
Enrichment activity: Teacher asks pupils to recall what their friends’ favourite sport is without looking at the worksheet.

Implementation strategies:

Teacher lists out some chores on the board and has pupils read them out.
Teacher explains the activity and asks pupils to do it in their exercise books.
Teacher instructs pupils to categorise the chores according to the names of family members and the tasks they are responsible for.
