CHEM 3A

Created by Viktor Kunder (chemistry tutor) 1/31/18

Chem 3A's curriculum requires you to know how to design experiments. This video is about 3 minutes long and has 3 extremely important points when it comes to designing an experiment. After this video I encourage you to try out an experiment determining boiling point with this method.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST TOPICS IN CHEMISTRY. This video really explains what types of intermolecule forces exists and common areas where students mess up. Try to solve for which intermolecular forces belong to the molecules towards the end of the video by yourself before having the answer revealed.

Struggle with drawing Lewis Structures? Look no further. This video has a tutors insight on how he goes about drawing lewis structures. Pay close attention, and really digest what he is saying. At the end of the video, draw the Lew Structure for:

Some Rules to remember for Significant Figures

We know that significant figures tend to be intimidating at first, however this video provides you with a few rules of thumb to help you better understand/remember how significant figures work.

Make sure you check the other videos on how to use/apply significant figures when adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying.

Once you feel confident about it, ASK A TUTOR FOR HELP & SOME PRACTICE PROBLEMS.

We have all gotten confused on how scientific notation works. This video will make it a lot simpler.

The goal for you to watch this 5min video is for you to obtain a greater understanding on this subject. Once you finish, let a tutor know, so we can give you some practice problems, so you can become an expert at this.

Stoichiometry Example Problems

Stoichiometry

Stoichiometry is the most important and reoccurring topic in all of general chemistry. These videos are great because not only does it introduce you to the material, it gives examples to try for yourself. I would highly encourage for students who are uncomfortable with this topic to watch all the videos. Spending an hour actively watching these videos is better than sitting in lecture for an hour when learning this topic.

When watching this video keep in mind:

As always feel free to ask for help if it still is not making sense to you.

Limiting and Excess Reactants

Limiting and excess reactants is one of the first big hurdle that comes up in chemistry lab and lecture. Students often forget this topic, so repetition is key to not forget it. There are also several variations of these types of problems. These videos are essential to watch for general chemistry and are worth the time.
