Crafting History
History 198 teaches you how to write a proper historical research paper. It may be intimidating to have to write a ~15 page paper, however, if you give yourself enough time to research and write, you will be just fine.
General tips:
Give yourself ample time to research your chosen topic. Research takes time, especially if it is your first time finding primary sources.
The Fresno State Library offers subject libarians to help you with your research projects! Subject librarians are extremely knowledgeable about the databases Fresno State has to offer -- they will help you find primary sources for your project. Feel free to shoot Chris Langer (the history subject librarian) a detailed email about your topic. You can find his information HERE.
Make sure to include contextual information such as the time period of your project, the types of primary sources you are looking for, your tentative argument, or any other relevant information.
Pace yourself! You cannot write an extended research paper in one day. Set a schedule for yourself, like writing one page a day, or a few pages a week.
If you feel stuck, the best thing to do is write. No one writes good first drafts, don't feel as if you are married to every word you write
On the same note, revision is your best friend. Spend some time reading your paper out loud -- this allows you to catch mistakes you would normally jump over in your head.
