Two things to focus on for managing motivation in organizations:
Job Characteristic Model (JCM): the JCM focuses on why some jobs are more motivating than others, and how higher motivation in jobs are beneficial!
Motivating Force (MF): this is comes from the "Expectancy Theory" where it is a starting point to acknowledge and frame motivational challenges to integrate motivational needs.
The equation for this is:
MF = Expectancy x Instrumentality x Valence
Enhancing JCM in the workplace with INCREASE employee motivation!
Based on THREE points: Expectancy, Instrumentality, and Valence.
Note: motivation will be HIGH if ALL THREE are HIGH
Mechanistic structures are highly specialized! Think "mechanism" as straightforward and no sense of flexibility! Mechanistic structures are highly formal and have strict departmentalization!
Organic structures are low in specialization! Think organic as "natural" because there is more flexibility in chain of command and loose departmentalization!
