Before opening a new refill, look in the filament cabinet to see if the color is already loaded on a reusable spool. If it is, use that spool instead of opening a new refill.
Choose an empty spool from the cabinet. Do not remove filament from a spool that still has material on it.
Remove the paper band(s) from the refill in the order indicated. Keep the paper label — it helps humans identify the material type and color.
Match the locator tab on the spool with the notch on the refill. Ensure the filament coil stays centered and undisturbed.
Press the two halves firmly until they click and fully seat. The spool should feel solid with no gaps between the halves.
Place the assembled spool into the AMS or printer and confirm the RFID tag is read correctly before closing the lid. If the AMS does not detect the spool, reseat it and try again.
Place the paper label on the outside rim of the spool in a consistent location. This helps other members quickly identify material type and color.
If you removed a spool that still has filament on it, do not separate the halves. Return the intact spool to the filament cabinet.
If you encounter a separated spool with filament still on it, reassemble it and return it to storage. If the filament is tangled or damaged, notify a lead.
