Drum Sander

A cylindrical abrasive drum used for aggressive shaping, edge cleanup, and smoothing straight or gently curved surfaces.

Flap Sander

A flexible wheel made of layered abrasive “flaps” that conform to curves, soften edges, and provide a more forgiving finish.

🟧 Safety Rules

Personal Safety

• Safety glasses required.

• No gloves while operating.

• Tie back long hair and avoid loose clothing.

• Keep fingers away from rotating drums/flaps.

• Hold workpieces firmly — the sander can grab small parts.

Machine Safety

• Ensure dust collector is ON.

• Open the blast gates for the sander.

• Do not sand pieces too small to hold safely.

• Do not apply excessive pressure — let the abrasive do the work.

• Keep the table adjusted so the workpiece is supported.

1. Check Dust Collection

• Turn on dust collector.

• Open blast gates.

2. Inspect Drums & Flap Wheels

• Look for tears, glazing, or heavy loading.

• Replace worn abrasives as needed.

3. Sanding

• Use light, controlled pressure.

• Keep workpiece flat on the table or firmly supported.

• Move steadily to avoid burning.

• Use flap wheel for curved or delicate surfaces.

4. Cleanup

• Brush or vacuum dust.

• Close blast gates.

• Turn off dust collector if no one else is using it.
