Loveland CreatorSpace — Bambu Labs 3D Printers
A clean, well‑maintained print bed ensures:
Consistent first‑layer adhesion
Fewer failed prints
Longer bed lifespan
Better surface finish on printed parts
PLA is forgiving, but Bambu beds still need regular care — especially after heavy use.
Members should know which bed they’re using:
Textured PEI Plate Best for general PLA printing; hides first‑layer lines.
Smooth PEI Plate Excellent adhesion; shows first‑layer detail clearly.
High‑Temperature Engineering Plate Not used at CreatorSpace (PLA only), but worth noting.
Each plate has slightly different cleaning needs, but the basics are the same.
Microfiber cloth
90–99% isopropyl alcohol (IPA)
Warm water & mild dish soap (optional)
Let the bed cool completely Removing prints while warm can warp the plate.
Wipe with IPA
Apply IPA to a microfiber cloth
Wipe the entire surface in overlapping strokes
Removes oils, fingerprints, and dust
Check for residue
Look for stuck filament, blobs, or scratches
Remove small blobs with a fingernail or plastic scraper
Dry thoroughly Alcohol evaporates quickly, but moisture can cause adhesion issues.
For textured or smooth PEI plates:
Remove the plate from the printer
Wash with warm water and a drop of dish soap
Scrub gently with a soft sponge
Rinse thoroughly
Air‑dry completely before reinstalling
This removes oils IPA can’t fully break down.
Abrasive cleaners
Acetone (damages PEI)
Metal scrapers
Excessive heat (warps plates)
If a print is stuck:
Let the bed cool — PLA often releases naturally
Flex the textured plate gently
Use a plastic scraper, never metal
For stubborn prints, a tiny bit of warm water can help release PLA from smooth PEI
If adhesion becomes inconsistent:
Clean with soap & water
Check for worn PEI coating
Inspect for gouges or scratches
Re‑level the bed (Bambu printers auto‑calibrate, but debris can interfere)
Replace a plate if:
PEI coating is peeling
Deep scratches affect adhesion
Warping prevents flat contact
Prints fail repeatedly despite cleaning
Loveland CreatorSpace should keep at least one spare plate for each printer model.
Clean the bed before and after each print
Report damaged or warped plates
Avoid using unapproved chemicals
Handle plates gently to avoid bending or cracking
