I close my eyes and I can see
What sparta class has been like for me
That I call my own
Through the noise, through the fun
Through all the learning I have done
With my friends in class
They can say they can say Maria’s crazy
They can say They can say she’s lost her mind
We don't care we don't care that Maria’s crazy
Her Ta’s knew it all this time
Everyday we come to class
Learn, create and always laugh
A million facts are whirling in my head
I think of what next year could be
A vision of excitement I see
In Sparta class, we always are a team
In Sparta class, we always be a team
There's knowledge we can build
Every brain cell is filled
With themes from far away
Lessons I compile
Each one to make you Smile
On a challenging day
They can say they can say Maria’s crazy
They can say They can say she’s lost her mind
We don't care we don't care that Maria’s crazy
Her Ta’s knew it all this time
Everyday we come to class
Learn, create and always laugh
A million facts are whirling in my head
I think of what next year could be
A vision of excitement I see
In Sparta class, we always are a team
In Sparta class, we always be a team
Key concepts
Responsibility - what should I do?
Connection - how are things linked?
Change - how is it transforming?
Maths - Students have been learning about money and the value of different coins and notes.
We have been learning about position and direction during topic maths lessons, we have taken our physical learning about moving left, right, up, down, 1/4 turn and half term and applied it to the programmable cars to direct them around a course.
Our inquiry learning involved recalling prior learning today.
Students recalled information about what different governments were, named different leaders and their impact during part of their time as leader of a country.
Sparta class then learned about the hard decisions that had to be made in governments and they were given the challenge of ideas to improve the school, and what impact this would have on them.
We investigated how the governments decisions and actions impacted our societies during World War 2.
This led to learning specifically about rationing.
During wartime between 'propaganda' was a strategy often used by the government to influence public opinion, posters, newspaper adverts and the radio were used to spread the new ideas. Investigating posters from the era, allowed students to analyse and make new slogans using the correct features.
Making links with problems faced during war time Britain and today, can be very difficult, however rationing is a strategy that we could use today to help during the 'cost of living' crisis.
They also looked at a wage slip and learned about deductions before household bills. Fortunately, Billy, our case study planned his bills well and had a little over at the end of the month. Should he spend it or should he save it?
Students looked at a typical household budget and what bills wee included, they sorted these into fixed household costs, essential living costs and non essential living costs. They found out that WIFI and sweets were non essential!!!!
To use our newly learned budgeting skills, each group were given a budget to plan a party. They had to discuss and choose different decorations, foods and prizes, then price these up so they did not go over their given amount.
Whilst learning about the cost of living crisis, we have researched different charities that help us.
We extended our learning about rationing and made a wartime pie. This involved using a symbolised shopping list with the ingredients written in French, which were then matched to the recipe to ensure we had the correct items. We followed food health and safety rules to prepare the vegetables and meat for the pie using and consolidating our knife skills. Students also took turns to safely fry onions using the hob.
Using the theme of rationing, students made both a cake from a recipe from wartime Britain and a Victoria sponge. They then made informed guesses to which cake they preferred.
We have been learning about the cost of living crisis and researched different budget meals. This week, we made a chicken wrap, which covered the different food groups for good nutritional values. Students completed a symbolised shopping list, which was written in French for students to find ingredients on the shelves. Students learned to use the correct colour boards for food health and safety. All also used the hob and knives in a safe and sensible manner.
During English, we have been identifying speech in text. We also consolidate our knowledge by picking the speech from a sentence and placing it in the speech bubble.
Sparta class have worked collaboratively and have been learning how to programme the microbits to write their name in the lights.
