Maths - Sparta have started the term learning different strategies for adding and subtraction.
Students are using concrete materials to support their calculations.
Students used knowledge of number matching numicon and coins to total different coin combinations.
How the World Works
Students discussed our new central theme and lines of inquiry, they found words that they did not understand and used their English skills to find out what they meant in a dictionary, some did this using an online dictionary.
We learned that to solve problems we have to make a difficult decisions through
deciding who can stay in the balloon to travel to the Desert Island.
Where are our tables? - students were set a task to work together for a common goal.
From completing these team work activities, it was clear that rules are essential to keep us work together and stay safe. We have looked at rules then laws and made sure we could tell the difference between the two.
Its all about democracy!
Current affairs around the wider World - Sparta class watch the news and during discussions find where the events have taken place, they can then name the continent it has taken place within.
Religion, government and charities help all people to have equal opportunities
Students identified what impact the second world war had on everyday lives, they looked at how the bombing of Merchant ships led to a shortage of food and other supplies. Students learned that Rationing was a strategy to ensure everyone is treated equally.
We investigated different rationing recipes and chose to make 'Scotch eggs and Crunchies'.
