Tree Vitalize is a one-day movement, the JIS community took on, to participate in CNN’s Call to Earth campaign; where students are invited to our Outdoor Discovery Centre (ODC). The goal of this activity is to revitalise the health and growth of previously planted trees from our tree planting events. This includes weeding, watering and providing the trees with our ODC-cultivated compost.
Through the 'Tree Vitalize' campaign, students will gain an insight into the complexities of rewilding, restoring forestry, and actively engaging in climate change mitigation through biodiversity conservation. This campaign is dedicated to the protection and preservation of 'Our Shared Home'.
CNN's Call to Earth campaign is designed to promote environmental conservation around the globe. This year, the theme is 'Our Shared Home'. Through the involvement of the younger generations, that being students around the world, they aim to create a sense of understanding amongst the future leaders of tomorrow, to bring about a change that can aid in taking one step closer towards slowing down global warming.
We are very grateful to have been given the opportunity to showcase the change we are making in Brunei, right here on our campus, contributing to global sustainability as a whole. In JIS, we belive in teaspoons of change. Through small, yet frequent actions, whether it be conserving already planted trees, or planting new ones, a small action can change the world – and that's all that matters.
The JIS students, especially our sustainability prefects and the eco-reps, have led this movement forward, by building an atmosphere of togetherness and community as they shape an inspired tomorrow. We stand by the motto 'a cleaner tomorrow starts day' – a notion our students have demontrated exceptionally well.
