Welcome to Jerudong International School's Outdoor Discovery Centre! A space to discover, create and explore everything and anything related to forestry and biodiversity.
The ODC was originially set to be an extension of our new sports complex. Trees were cut down, but the project was cancelled, leaving the space barren. In 2016, a group of passionate students and teachers initiated a replanting project – leading to the creation of the Outdoor Discovery Centre.
We are dedicated to restoring the ecological balance of the ODC, by carefully replanting indigenous tree species. This endeavour will contribute towards revitalising the local environment, and promote biodiversity and ecological sustainability.
We aim to transform the ODC into a dynamic outdoor classroom. Here, students will have the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge through kinesthetic and experiential learning. By immersing themselves in the natural world, students will deepen their understand of biology, ecology and environmental science.
We aspire to create a platform where students take the lead in sustainability projects and practices – an initiative we have already successfully launched. Through hands-on involvement and learning by trial and error, students will develop practical skills and a profound sense of responsibility for environmental stewardship. This empowerment will enable them to become leaders in sustainable practices and advocates for a greener future.
Take a look at this video to see how we are already using the ODC as an outdoor learning space:
To create an outdoor classroom, that studuents will thrive in and enjoy, our students created beautiful art murals around our ODC to promote a lively atmosphere and a sense of 'togetherness and community'. These artworks display the diverse and exotic wildlife we are lucky to have right here, right now. Truly pieces to appreciate and admire.
