On the 6th of November, students from our ECO JIS CCA went on an expedition to the I AM Food factory. This trip was organized in an effort to educate JIS students on how to grow and cultivate crops at home, and industrially. Students were exposed to a wide range of plants, herbs, and crops; and learned about the various uses of advanced technology used in farming today. They took part in activities such as transplanting melons, harvesting chilies and tomato, and tasted a wonderful range of products presented by the I AM Food team. From sambal to rosella cordial, the options were endless!
I am Food operates as an Agritech Farm, employing advanced technology to enhance the effectiveness and productivity of agricultural methods through three farming systems: Aquaponics, Fertigation, and Outdoor Natural Farming. They currently operate over six (6) greenhouses, and uses farming software called the Internet of Things (I.O.T.) system. This allows them to remotely monitor and control their systems through internet-connected sensors and devices. This enables them to standardize the growth rate of plants using controlled environment (temperature, water and fertilizer input as well as monitor the growth and health of these plants)
Thank you to everyone who participated, and IAM Food for giving us such an insightful tour of their headquarters.
