As the eco leaders of Argus, we encourage our house members to participate in helping the environment with our various eco activities.
We educate our house to care for the environment by talking about the little ways we can improve our lives while also maintaining sustainability.
For Earth Week 2024, the Argus eco committee sold specially made pandan milk tea, that was made with the pandan leaves that were grown at the school's Outdoor Discovery Centre (ODC). Since they were grown in the ODC, there was no need to import the products leading to a smaller carbon footprint. It was also served in biodegradable cups that can also be recycled making it a great sustainable drink for a hot day.
During Peace Week 2024, Argus and Whistler collaborated with each other to produce a green business activity to include everyone of all ages. We hosted the Whisgus carnival, where students can spin the wheel made of recycled cardboard to get a reduced price for cupcakes made by both the Whistler and Argus Eco Committees.
Members of the Argus Eco Committee and other Argus house members took place in an event held by the ODC to plant more trees to create a healthier environment and more biodiversity.
''When I arrived at the ODC, many were there joining their houses to plant their own trees. People were spraying mosquito repellent onto themselves and everyone had their own conversations. Shafiq, the eco prefect, then showed us a demo on how to plant their own trees and what needs to be done to them to ensure they survive. Members of our house each played their own part into gathering all the tools and resources needed to plant. We planted the new tree near the entrance of the ODC and then we tended our house tree by digging some kind of pill to help it thrive. Those who chose to stay behind stayed by the pond to see if the ODC turtle would actually pop up from the pond (it didn’t). Overall, I enjoyed the whole experience and I learnt the basics of how to plant a tree and the things you need to do to make sure it survives.''

Whistler Fig Tree
Whistlers took the opportunity to officially make this fig tree the House Tree which will hopefully be passed on the next generation of Whistlers to come.
Terrarium Cleaning
Eco Committee members held ODC sessions to clean and make a terrarium with the help of other House Representatives.
