Our sustainability committee this year comprises of all 12 Eagle members in Year 12 with Jovan Tang as the Sustainability Representative.
We met in the evenings in the boarding house after our house meetings and split the work up by theme.
We also have many unique advatanges to our sustainability effort as we are a boarding house and we try to take advantage of that, extending our work to not only our tutor rooms and in school activities but also those in Eagle.
Our eco-noticeboard in our study room is where we can display our awareness posters, energy saving reminders, and other important information about Eagle's sustainability efforts.

Most of our paper recycling comes from the study room in the Eagle boarding house (Year 7-10s have to be there every night and all their paper goes in there). Every year after exams, everyone’s revision notes and past papers are thrown into the recycling bin which is a huge amount of paper sent to be recycled.
On 12/2/25, 9 of our Eagle boys went down to the ODC to take part in a composting workshop with Mr Amir. We first went through a educational talk on composting and composting techniques where we learnt about 'open-air composting'. We then did the practical part of the workshop where we turned and mixed the existing compost pile at the ODC (and we got featured on the sustainability instagram page + newsletter!)
We set up a recycling bin for cans in Eagle on the ground floor to recycle aluminium cans. All Eagle members are reminded to recycle their cans and bring in cans from home over the weekend to be recycled during our evening House Meetings, and our Eagle Staff living in boarding were also encouraged to put their cans into our recycling bin!
After collecting the cans, we handed them in to be sent to the Daikyo company to be recycled.
We planted our house tree - a banana tree, outside of Eagle on 1 February (pictured left). We chose to plant a banana plant because it is an extremely sustainable plant that can act as a renewable resource. This is because banana plants can regrow without having to replant the seeds, and banana plants are fast growing so it can be harvested within 9 - 12 months, and almost every part can be used making it a very sustainable resource. The photo on the right is a progress picture of the plant, taken on 16 March.
Some of our Eagle boys conducted a beach clean up at Panaga Beach, and managed to gather 10 bags of trash total. They would have continued but they ran out of bags unfortunately... But it was great to see more involvement from our Middle Years boys in this event!
Posters are displayed on our eco-noticeboard.

We faced many challenges this year in trying to do our green business such as someone accidentally turning off the freezer and someone else dropping a block of ice on the floor, but we still managed to sell at the Lapathon!
Ways our business is sustainable:
syrup is mainly made from leftover fruit at the end of week in Eagle that is still ripe but no one has eaten
we buy sustainable packaging to sell in
ice is just frozen water so it's sustainable to sell
We handed a portion of our money in to the school and the rest of the money is going towards buying new equipment for next year's green business.
All the toilet paper in Eagle is recycled toilet paper from EnEvo.
Water saving reminders put in every bathroom in Eagle.
This year, we realised that people were putting in their towels to be washed every day which is unnecessary and wasted a lot of energy, water, and soap. So in Eagle now we have to sign off when we get a new towel and this has drastically cut down people unncessarily putting their towels into the washing.
