Throughout this module have been, and will be looking at the unit 'Animals including humans'. To help us understand and recap things that we already knew about this unit, we discussed what we had learnt in Year R and Year 1 and thought about what else we would like to find out.
Once we established what we already knew, we started to look at what humans need in order to survive. We compared humans to non-living things such as robots and discussed what is similar and what is different between living and non-living things.
N.C find out about and describe the basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival (water, food and air)
Our next lesson focused on what is offspring. We looked at different types of animals and what their offspring would also look like. To make sure we understood the learning, we completed a matching activity.
N.C notice that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults
In our last few lessons of the module we have looked at the human lifecycle and how we change as we grow. We have been able to explain different parts of the human life cycle and to help us apply the knowledge, we have been able to complete an investigation linked to age and show size. When taking part in this investigation we were able to develop lots of working scientifially skills such as problem solving and pattern seeking.

In module 2 we are continuing to learn about the topic 'animals including humans' but with a focus on healthy eating and exercise. Our first lesson focused on exercise and what happens to our heart when we take part in it. We have been able to explain that our heart starts to beat faster as we move because it it needs to work harder in our bodies. To help us understand this more, we took part in some short exercises within the classroom such as jogging on the spot, and sitting still with our legs crossed.
N.C describe the importance for humans of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food, and hygiene.
Our next lesson allowed us to focus on healthy eating and what a healthy, balanced diet would look like. We looked at the EatWell guide and got to create our own healthy, balanced meals.
N.C describe the importance for humans of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food, and hygiene.
In our science lessons this module we have been looking at materials and their uses. Our first lesson focused on identifying different materials and recapping our learning from Year 1. We then used that information to help us identify a range of materials around our school grounds and finding out what we would use the materials for. We have also explored a range of materials and completing a short investigation to find out if we could change their shape. It was very interesting to find out that lots of things can be changed into a different shape but some materials do not stay the shape that it has been changed into, such as aplastic straw.
This module is all about plants! So far we have been using our scientific skill of classifying by looking at a range of seeds and bulbs and grouping them according to their characteristics. We then looked at them even further by using magnifying glasses to see the smaller details.
In our second science lesson we were developing the skill of comparative testing. We looked at what things a plant needs in order and survive and as a class we have planted seeds to see how they grow, but with missing things such as no soil. no sunlight and not the right temperature. We will observe the plants over time to see how well they grow or even if they grow at all!
Throughout Module 5 we have been looking at living things and their habitats. We have been looking at how animals adapt to their environment as well as the different life cycles of living things. We were able to go to Howletts this module was amazing because we got to see lots of different living things and learn about their diet and where their natural habitats are.
This module has been about scientists and inventors. We have focused on key scientists such as Charles Macintosh and Rachel Carson. We have learned about them and have completed investigations linked to what they have invented such as testing a range of materials just like Charles Macintosh did for his Rain Mac.
