In our first module of Year 2 we have been looking at vehicles and what they are. We discussed that a vehicle is something that moves and is able to transport things such as people or objects. In our first lesson we looked at different vehicles and the features that we might find on them such as wheels, frame, windows etc. We drew a vehicle of our choice and label it accordingly.

After looking at what a vehicle is, we focused on what axles, wheels and chassis were. We looked at different types of chassis and discussed how they would support a moving vehicle. We drew diagrams explaining what these parts of the vehicle are.

After looking at vehicles in detail and learning how they work, we made links with our History lessons and looked at vehicles from the Victorian Era. We discussed how they are similar and different to the vehicles we see now. In this lesson, we were given the task of designing a vehicle for the future, thinking about the features it needs to have and how it will move.

Linking with our lines of inquiry this module, we are making fabric faces. Like with art, we are doing this to help celebrate the range of differences and similarities that we have as class and school. Our first lesson was all about exploring a range of materials and fabric dolls. We discussed different materials that have been used to make fabric toys and we wrote them all down in our books. We discussed the texture of different materials and how we could use them when we create our own fabric faces.
N.C build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
In our second lesson, we focused on our hair. We described what our hair looked and felt like and compared it to a range of materials that we have at school such as lace, wool, hessian and tissue paper. Individually, we decided what material may be best for our hair and used it to make our own hair on pictures of ourselves. They have turned out amazing!

Our Inquiry learning has been looking at innovation and invention and how it may make the world a better place. For us to take part in this learning, we have been fortunate enough to take part a competition led by the Young Leaders titled 'if you were an engineer what would you do?'. This is a national competition that enables students of primary and secondary age to think of a problem in their locality and try to help solve it by designing what they would make. Entries are sent off and a group of engineers then judge the designs. Hopefully, we will have a winner in Lizard Class because if we do, the winning design could be made a prototype!

In Module 4 we looked at healthy eating and what we could use to make healthy, filling wraps for our lunches. We used our knowledge from science to look at the different food groups and designed what would be our perfect lunch. We had lots of fun because we could choose things that we might not have tried before.
In module 5 we are learning all about mechanisms. In our first DT lesson we created moving minibeasts by using sliders and pivots. We had lots of fund choosing what minibeast we would like to move and designing a background for it. We learnt how to move minibeasts in different directions using a range of resources in the classroom such as lollipop sticks and split pins. As we progressed throughout the term we looked at making moving pictures using different mechanisms such as a moving wheel mechanism. We have really enjoyed making our moving pictures this term!
In Module 6 we have been looking at developing our sewing skills to design and make our own cushions. We really enjoyed making our cushions and are really pleased with our final products!
