The first text we read together as a class was The Queen's knickers. We all loved reading this text. We had a lucky job of designing a new pair of knickers for the Queen. Maybe next time we can design some pants for the King!
Throughout this module we have been looking at a range of different texts. All of these texts support our Lines of Inquiry and Central Idea.
We have spent lots of time focusing on retrieval questions this module as in Year 2 it is very important to understand the text we are reading, as well as reading it well. To help us develop our retrieval skills, we have been reading lots of '60 second reads' which has given us access to a range of different texts and question types, which are linked to VIPERS. Here is an example of something that we have been using.
This module we are reading a range of different texts that all link to our Lines of inquiries focusing on inclusion, differences and prejudice. When reading this texts we will be looking at the different vocabulary that is used, explaining how and why characters feel and inferring information based on what we can read and see. So far we have loved reading The Smeds and the Smoos.
This module has seen us take part in our very first set of SATs reading papers. We have tried very hard and even though some of us found them quite tricky, we are very pleased with ourselves!
We are looking at two core texts this module and these are; Leonora Bolt - secret inventor and Rosie Revere, engineer. We have been enjoying reading these texts and they are supporting us a lot with our writing. In our reading lessons we have been developing our skills around inference, retrieval and vocabulary.
This module we have also completing some more practise SATs papers so we can show we amazing we are at understanding information.
Throughout module 4 we have been reading the text Jim and the beanstalk. This is a sequal to the original text Jack and the beanstalk. Lizard class have been able to make connections between both stories as well as discuss the similarities and differences.
As we love reading for pleasure in Year 2, we have been reading The boy who grew dragons at the end of the day. The children in Lizard Class love hearing about Chipstick and what will happen next!
In Module 5 we have been reading the text 'The Hodgeheg' by Dick King-Smith. We have enjoyed haering the funny things Max (the hodgeheg) says after he gets a bump to the head. We have looked at new vocabulary in the book such as 'ambition' , 'dusk' and 'anxious' and used these words in our own writing. We have also looked at developing our skills at answering retrieval and inference questions and recording our answers in full sentnces. We have also predicted what will happen in the story next based on what has already happened and what we have learnt about the characters.
In Module 6 we have been reading two texts 'Leon and the Place between ' by Angela MacAllister and 'Meerkat Mail' by Emily Gravett. We have looked at new vocabulary in the books such as 'weary' , 'fascinate' and 'flicker' and used these words in our own writing. We have also looked at developing our skills at answering retrieval and inference questions and recording our answers in full sentences. We have also predicted what will happen in the story next based on what has already happened and what we have learnt about the characters.
