Safety is incredibly important when using machines and the Centre Lathe is no different. Make sure you a familiar with the workshop rules before using any of the machines and follow your teacher's instructions at all times.

Where appropriate P.P.E. - Goggles, safety boots
Ensure all loose clothing is tied back. Never wear a tie when using a lathe.
Tie back long hair
Make sure the area is clear of trip hazards and that there is nothing sitting on the lathe before it is switched on.

Make sure work is secure in the chuck
Make sure the chuck and work can spin freely without colliding with another part of the machine
Make sure the tool is sharp, correct for the job and set ot the right height
Make sure the machine is set to the correct speed for the material and size of bar
Make sure the autofeed is disengaged
Make sure all guards are in place
