Centre Drilling

A chuck can be mounted in the tailstock to allow holes to be drilled down the centre of the work.

A centre drill should always be used first to ensure that the twist drill stays drilling in the centre.

The twist drill can then be used. The scale on the tailstock will indicate how deep the hole is.

When drilling a deep hole it is important to withdraw the drill during drilling in order to let the swarf to clear.

Lubrication and coolant will also be needed.
