The filler wire is continuously fed through the centre of the torch.
An inert gas (Argon and CO2) is piped through the torch to provide a protective gas shield around the weld pool.
There is no slag to chip off the finished weld
MIG welded can be automated and performed by robots
Mostly used for mild steel but can be set up for stainless and aluminium
