Welcome to the Higher Graphics site. These pages contain lots of information that you should use to help build your knowledge about the course. You should use this information to help with your homework, completing your assignment and with exam revision.

Course overview

In order to complete the Higher Graphic Communication course you will need to finish two assessment activities:

1. An Exam paper.

This exam is worth 90 marks and will last 2 hours and 30 minutes. You will take this exam at the end of the course.

2. An assignment task.

This task will be issued by SQA each year and is completed under exam conditions in class time. The assignment is worth 50 marks and will have a time limit. You will complete this task between Christmas and Easter.

Course Content

During the course you will develops skills in two main areas — 2D graphics, and 3D and pictorial graphics

You will need to apply these skills to produce graphics with visual impact that communicate information effectively.

In 2D graphic communication you will need to develop creativity and good 2D graphic presentation skills so you can come up with, plan, develop and communicate your design ideas using 2D graphic techniques.

In 3D and pictorial graphic communication you will need to develop creativity and presentation skills in completing 3D and pictorial graphics so you can come up with, plan, develop and communicate design ideas using 3D and pictorial graphic techniques.

While you complete tasks in these areas you will also develop spatial awareness, visual literacy, and the ability to interpret given drawings, diagrams and other graphics.

The skills you develop will enable you to evaluate your work, and the work of others, and explain how effective graphic communication designs are in meeting their purpose.
