Measuring and Marking

All of our projects start with measuring and marking. If we don't do this properly then our projects will never be quite right!

Through the course you will come across lots of different tools and be expected to use them correctly; you may also be asked to show your knowledge of them in your exam.

Tools and equipment:

• Scriber and scribing block,

• Steel rule,

• Combination set,

• Engineer’s square,

• Centre finder,

• Spring dividers,

• Calipers (oddleg, inside, outside, and Vernier or digital),

• Micrometer (analogue or digital),

• Centre punch,

• Surface table,

• Angle block,

• V-block,

• Engineer’s blue,

• Witness marks,

• Datum lines,

• Allowances for expansion, bending, stretching, forming, trimming, welding, brazing and soldering.
