Hot Metalwork

One area of the course involves creating projects which require parts to be forged. While this can be a lot of fun there are inherent dangers in working with hot metal. You will be expected to perform a range of practical processes SAFELY as you complete projects. You will also need to demonstrate knowledge in your exam.

These are the processes the exam board expect you to have knowledge of:

• Hot-forming techniques including twisting, drawing down and flattening
• Hot-bending techniques including metal bar bending and metal strip bending
• Heat-treatment methods of annealing, hardening and Tempering
