The study of Civics aims at providing a basic understanding of the nature of the American political system by examining citizenship and civic virtue, the foundations of our government, the Constitution and its principles, the institutions and procedures of the three branches of government, New Hampshire state government, an overview of the electoral process, and policy making. The general objective of this course is for students to master fundamental concepts while understanding how our government works in order to be an educated and informed voter in our democratic society. To achieve credit for this course, as well as to graduate high school, the state of New Hampshire also requires all students to receive a passing grade on the USCIS Naturalization Test.
