Geometry is about shapes and their properties. This course will place an emphasis on writing formal proofs, as well as students using algebra to solve geometric problems. The following topics will be addressed: angles, parallel and perpendicular lines and planes, polygons with emphasis on triangles and quadrilaterals, similarity, circles, constructions, coordinate geometry, perimeter and area of two-dimensional shapes, and surface area and volume of three-dimensional solids. During the course, students will be expected to write “formal” algebraic and geometric proofs.
