Geometry is about shapes and their properties. This course will place an emphasis on writing formal proofs, as well as students using algebra to solve geometric problems. The following topics will be addressed: angles, parallel and perpendicular lines and planes, polygons with emphasis on triangles and quadrilaterals, similarity, circles, constructions, coordinate geometry, perimeter and area of two-dimensional shapes, and surface area and volume of three-dimensional solids. During the course, students will be expected to write “formal” algebraic and geometric proofs. Any student enrolled in Honors Geometry will be exposed to higher level proofs, as well as more in depth application of algebraic skills and thinking throughout the course.
