From the Avengers to Superman and the Shield, comics are embedded in today’s world. Marvel and D.C. are making a lot of money of turning graphic novels into film, but is the graphic novel a reliable source of literature? What is different about these pieces than the Sunday funnies? In this course, students will determine whether this genre should be considered successful modern literature or not. They will analyze the art of storytelling and how it is driven by culture. They will discover the history of this genre, and evaluate its future. Finally, they will learn to create a Graphic Novel of their own.
