The Day of the Colonizers
1 Life was normal in my Barangay {a}. We farmed and fished while the women stayed at home cooking and doing house chores. 2 Everything worked until… We saw ships in the distance and these weren’t fishing boats they were huge and could probably fit the population of five Barangays. 3 Once they arrived we welcomed them with bread and cooked fish but they were speaking a different language and didn’t understand. 4 They said,” Where’s my Pumpkin Spice latte and my Starbucks cake pop?” Whatever that meant. 5 We were confused and when we questioned they started to kill us. 6 I ran and hid. For one month I hid. When I would peak I would see large spikey walls and a statue in the center of town. 7 It was a stick with a ball on top {b}. 8 Then I saw a flag with multiple colors in rows. Some of these colors I had never seen {c}. 9 Once I saw an opportunity one night when they stopped building. 10 I ran to the port and stole a fishing boat. I sailed to Papua which is where I met Alain and his fleet. We stayed on the island
