Hello Mission San Jose Elementary Families,
November is a good time to reflect on all of what and who we are grateful for. I am deeply grateful for the parents, families, staff, and students of MSJE. Being able to watch our amazing student grow and develop everyday is tremendously joyful. On behalf of Mission San Jose Elementary School, I wish you and your family a happy and healthy Thanksgiving Season.
During the month of October, we celebrated Unity Day, International Walk & Roll to School Day, and Red Ribbon Week. The month came to an end with the first MSJE Movie Night and Halloween. Students and staff had a lot of fun with pumpkins, the parade, and arts & crafts. What fun it is to see our students engaging in school-wide events, shining inside and outside of the classrooms.
All Kindergarten - 5th grade students are learning about emotion management through our Second Step social-emotional learning curriculum. I am proud to see students utilizing the strategies and skills they have learned around school in various situations and am confident that their new learning will benefit them in future situations.
Parent conferences will be held during the week of November 13. Building a strong partnership with your child's teacher is an important way to support them. Please make every effort to attend conferences this year.
Happy November!
In Partnership,
Katy Carter, Principal

GATE (Gifted and Talented Education)
Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) provides support for gifted and talented (GATE) students through differentiated instruction. FUSD believes that differentiated instruction not only serves the needs of our exceptional students, but also enhances the entire educational program for all students. In February of 2020, funding for the CogAT testing was cut as part of the budget savings. While the CogAT testing has been the primary means of qualifying students for GATE identification we are now in the process of identifying an alternative way of identifying students. There will not be a test for GATE eligibility given this year.
During the 2023/2024 school year we will continue to identify 5th grade students who were not identified in an earlier grade. These students may be considered for GATE identification through the professional judgement process. Teachers and/or parents may nominate a student. A completed nomination form must be submitted by the teacher or parent to the school Principal by December 15, 2023. Principals will set up meetings with the teacher, student, and parent to discuss the student’s eligibility for GATE identification.

Counselor's Corner
November encourages us all to practice showing gratitude. The act of practicing gratitude has many benefits in improving our mental health, bringing us closer to our loved ones, and building resilience. At school, there will be many opportunities for students to reflect and show their appreciation. Families can reinforce and practice showing gratitude at home.
Every Wednesday is Wellness Wednesday where students can participate in wellness activities in the counselor’s classroom that incorporate arts and craft. The students have created Positive Bookmarks, Growth Mindset Zentangles, Mindful Coloring, and practicing Butterfly Breaths. We look forward to creating more opportunities this year for students to engage in.

PTC Connections
We are all looking forward to a year of partnership, involvement, and enrichment! The support provided by parents and families will continue to play an important role in our students' lives.
Thank you, in advance, for your support!
The PTC mission is to facilitate excellent communication among parents and teachers together, and to build one another up for the benefit of these amazing children! The goal of the 2023-2024 PTC Contribution Drive is to raise and administer funds that provide enrichment opportunities to MSJE students beyond those provided by the FUSD. The PTC will react to the changing needs of our students and teachers, and focus on creative ways to complement the ever-changing learning environment, and we need your support to do so!
Over the years, the PTC has funded after-school programs, classroom, and school needs to promote a more advanced and holistic education for our students. Examples include STEM programs such as Math Counts, Math Olympiad, and Robotics; Arts programs such as FAME, Music Programs, Creative Assemblies, Teacher Allotments, School Technology, School Library, Chess, and more. All funded by parents like you.
Your one-time donation for the current academic year is very important as the children’s needs are new. To donate, simply point your smartphone camera at one of the QR codes below and tap the link that pops up.
Suggested donation: $225 per student
Thank you in advance for your help!
