MSJE Parent & Student Handbook 2023-2024

Hello Mission San Jose Elementary Families,

As we welcome the vibrant blooms of April and the promise of warmer days, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the continued support and dedication of our MSJE community. This month, we celebrate the spirit of renewal and growth, not only in nature but also within our classrooms. Our students have been working diligently, and their achievements are a testament to the nurturing environment we've cultivated together. Let's continue to encourage our young learners to reach for the stars and embrace the joys of discovery.

April also brings us the joy of coming together for our annual Mustang Stampede. This year's Mustang Stampede will be held on Friday, March 26. This year, our school is raising funds for PTC programs. Our goal is to raise $20,000, and, if you’d like to, we are inviting YOU to help! More information is forthcoming.

Starting on April 29, our 3rd-5th  grade students will begin state-mandated Math and English Language arts testing (CAASPP). Fifth-grade students will also be taking the CAST Science Test. This month, teachers will be providing students with opportunities to practice for these standardized tests.

Here's to an April filled with learning, laughter, and the warmth of our school community.

In Partnership,

Katy Carter, Principal

Mustang Stampede

We are thrilled to bring back the MSJE Mustang Stampede! Our biggest fundraiser of the year will kick off in just a few weeks. This year, our school is raising funds for PTC programs. Our goal is to raise $20,000, and, if you’d like to, we are inviting YOU to help!

Key Dates to remember:

Donations will go toward supporting our school and can be given throughout the entire experience. There is no pressure to give, but we invite you to help our school by sharing our fundraiser with your family and friends! Thank you for supporting our school through this important fundraiser.

2024-2025 Class Placement Information and Input

At this time of the year, we begin to plan for the next school year...

The placement of students in classes is a complex process with many variables. Many Elementary schools in the Fremont Unified School District use the following criteria: program/student needs, student ability, student behavior, as well as ethnic and gender balance. Parent/guardian input in this process is valued as well. Parents/guardians may choose to complete the MSJE Parent/Guardian Input for Student Placement 2024-2025 Consideration form to describe their child's specific educational needs. This form is optional and parents/guardians should not feel they must complete this form. Input for Student Placement Consideration must be submitted no later than FRIDAY, MAY 3, 2024, BY 4:00 PM.  NO FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE AND TIME.

SBAC/CAST State-Required Assessments

Beginning April 29 and throughout the month of May, all 3rd-5th grade students will be taking the following state-required assessments:

Prior to the May test administration, students will have the opportunity in and outside of school to practice for this assessment through the CAASPP Online Practice and Training Test Portal. (At home, students can take practice tests as a "guest user" without needing a session ID or SSID number.)

All 3rd - 5th grade students should have a personal pair of earbuds or headphones to use for testing, beginning on April 29.

Additional information about State-Required CAASPP can be found on the FUSD Website.

MSJE Showcase

On May 22, 2024, Principal, Katy Carter, will be presenting an "MSJE Showcase" presentation to the FUSD board of education. This brief presentation will highlight MSJE's accomplishments, school highlights, and future growth targets. In preparation for this presentation, we are asking for input from staff, students, and parents/guardians. Let all of our voices be heard... Please complete this MSJE Showcase Input Survey by Friday, April 19.

2024-2025 FUSD Enrollment Update

Enrollment for NEW TK and Kindergarten students is now open via the District Enrollment website. Additionally, if you have a student that will be in grades 1-5 for 2024-2025 that is not currently attending Fremont Unified, but you want them to start in Fremont Unified in 2024-2025 you can enroll them now, under sibling priority. Again that would be done through the Enrollment website.

For your children that are CURRENTLY ENROLLED in Fremont Unified, you DO NOT go to the enrollment website to re-enroll. On January 29 you received an email via Informed K12 with the Reservation/Residency Verification form. You will need to submit that and attach 2 proof of residency documents. Submitting this form will secure  your child(ren)’s seat(s) for the 2024-2025 school year.

If your child is currently in TK in FUSD they will automatically be placed in kindergarten for the upcoming school year. If the school your child is attending is not your home school, if your child completes the school year at the current school, they will have a priority seat at their home school for kindergarten. Placement letters will be mailed, via the US Postal Service, in May.

Counselor's Corner

Spring is here!  The days become longer, spring flowers start to flourish and the days get warmer.  I am excited to share that we will be participating in Career Week from April 15-19th.  The purpose of this week is to expose students to a variety of careers to inspire them to think about their future.  Career exposure that begins in elementary school can create connections on how to connect their strengths and interests to possible future careers. There will be career activities that students can participate in to learn more.  At home, we encourage you to explore your child’s interests.  Here are some fun ways to incorporate home activities that can help children learn more about careers.  Another great way to talk about careers is reading stories together.  Here is a list of career books you could read with your child.

MSJE PTC Contribution Drive flyer - 2023/2024.pdf

PTC Connections

We are all looking forward to a year of partnership, involvement, and enrichment! The support provided by parents and families will continue to play an important role in our students' lives.

Thank you, in advance, for your support!

The PTC mission is to facilitate excellent communication among parents and teachers together, and to build one another up for the benefit of these amazing children! The goal of the 2023-2024 PTC Contribution Drive is to raise and administer funds that provide enrichment opportunities to MSJE students beyond those provided by the FUSD. The PTC will react to the changing needs of our students and teachers, and focus on creative ways to complement the ever-changing learning environment, and we need your support to do so!

Over the years, the PTC has funded after-school programs, classroom, and school needs to promote a more advanced and holistic education for our students. Examples include STEM programs such as Math Counts, Math Olympiad, and Robotics; Arts programs such as FAME, Music Programs, Creative Assemblies, Teacher Allotments, School Technology, School Library, Chess, and more. All funded by parents like you.

Your one-time donation for the current academic year is very important as the children’s needs are new. To donate, simply point your smartphone camera at one of the QR codes below and tap the link that pops up.

Suggested donation: $225 per student

Thank you in advance for your help!

For more information, please visit the PTC page on the MSJE Website or email the PTC at msjeptcexecboard@gmail.com.
