MSJE Parent & Student Handbook 2020-2021

Hello Mission San Jose Elementary Families,

What a year it's been! I'm sure I am not the only one who will be glad to see 2020 come to an end. Although it has been a very turbulent year, I am profoundly encouraged by our community's ability to adapt and to meet our challenges head-on with a positive and hopeful attitude.

I want to share my deep gratitude with the students, staff, and families that make up the amazing MSJE community. Albeit virtual, my first year as your principal has been met with warm welcomes, community partnership, and a never-dimming "what's best for students" focus.

Wishing you all a safe, healthy, and happy winter break!

In Partnership,

Katy Carter, Principal

Eight Great Character Traits

Throughout the year, we will be reinforcing the importance of developing and showing good character at school, home, and in the community. During the month of January, we will focus on the character trait, "PLANNING and DECISION-MAKING." Over the next month, opportunities will be created for students to consider the ways in which choices they make will shape outcomes. MSJE encourages all students to plan ahead, to imaging possible outcomes for various choices, and to reflect on what happens when certain decisions are made.

A message to reinforce at home... Planning ahead for success, considering consequences for actions, and making good choices paves the way for a bright future.

Change of Address/Residency

Please be reminded that it is the responsibility of parents under Board Policy 5111 to notify the school office within five (5) days if they move in or out of the attendance area. Any move within the attendance area still requires four (4) new proofs of residency to verify the new address. Failure to do so will result in revocation of the student’s placement at the school.

Counselors Corner

Hello Mustang families!

Happy holidays and winter break! Please give yourself some self-care and take care of yourself and family. Sleep in, go on a bike ride, experiment in the kitchen, or participate in my Mental Wellness Challenge. All past activities are still open and we have many weeks of fun activities to go. Awesome job to those who are already participating!

Also, please check out the social-emotional recorded lessons for the months of November and December:

Lastly, yes, we will have more Lunch Bunch! Please see the flyer and keep an eye out for a message from your child's teacher for the grade-level specific Zoom link.

Best, Ms. Kuang (akuang1@fusdk12.net)

PTC Connections

Hello Parents,

MSJE is proud to highlight Math Counts, Math Olympiad, assemblies (drawing assembly this December), FAME, and Chess Club as PTC funded programs. Additionally, the PTC has recently approved the funding for a site license of Tynker for MSJE. The PTC is in need for more contributions as we are nowhere near our goal and would like to provide additional enrichment programs during the pandemic.

See LINK for open PTC chair positions. Let us know if a position catches your interest and you're excited to sign up. We eagerly look forward to having your expertise and participation on the committee. Together, we can achieve a bigger impact in our children's education. We sincerely hope to hear from you soon. Let us know if you have any questions.

Start thinking ahead: We are in dire need of parents joining the PTC executive board open positions if we want to sustain the PTC next year. The following positions will be open next year (and can be co-chaired this year): PTC President, PTC Vice President, PTC treasurer, and PTC secretary.

Cheers,

MSJE PTC Board in partnership with Mrs. Carter

Please email questions to msjeptcexecboard@gmail.com.
